How does the Magic Button work?
With the Lightwave Link Plus, you can create an automation called an ‘If-Do’, which essentially means that ‘when this happens > do this’. A Lightwave smart dimmer can be used as the ‘trigger’ for this automation, with a number of devices called ‘actions’.
Here are some examples
Trigger: Hallway lights (switch to OFF)
Action: Living room lamp OFF
Action: Kitchen lights OFF
Action: Hallway lights OFF
Action: Bedroom bedside lamps OFF
Action: Heater OFF
Time condition: Only run during hours of 8-10am on weekdays
Which devices can I use?
Any Lightwave Smart Series device can be used as a magic button, such as a smart dimmer or smart socket. The requirement is that the device has to be able to communicate two-way for the Link Plus to register that its status has changed. Any other device in the Lightwave Link Plus app can be an action for the automation (dimmer, socket, heating device). Below are some ideas for creating a magic button automation:
- Using a 2 gang Smart Dimmer instead of a 1 gang to use the second channel as a magic button for some smart sockets around the house.
- An existing Smart Dimmer switching some lights can turn off all other lights during a set time period.
- A Smart Dimmer connected with a neutral does not require any lights connected to it, so this could be used for a magic button.
You’ll be pleased to know that you can use voice assistants to start the automation. Instead of touching the device, Google, Alexa or Siri could do the work for you!
